  •  A British sailor joins the U.S. navy...he has abandoned Britain. 
  • British forces invade the American ship... 
  •  ...and try to take back their soldiers that abandoned them.
  • Sometimes there were disputes against the British and U.S. over the soldier.
  • The British would usually take the soldiers by force if American soldiers refused to give them up.
  • Impressment is the practice of forcing people to serve in the army or navy.
  • Britain grew so large that the number of soldiers was sometimes not enough.
  • Britain would search American ships for sailors that ran away from their navy, and forced them to return to British ships.
  • The Embargo Act of 1807 was passed by the United States Congress and signed by President Thomas Jefferson.
  • In June 1807 Leopard, a British ship, stopped the Chesapeake and took sailors by force.
  • Time to turn back around. Seems like word got around...
  • No Americans

  • As a result the British would also gain soldiers by kidnapping American soldiers .
  • The Embargo Act prohibited American ships from trading in any foreign ports.
