This is Stanley. Stanley is Stella's husband. He is a man of plain and simple practicallity. He lacks imagination and cannot stand the way Blanche stretches the truth.
Poker shouldnt be played in a house with women!
In my first key moment, Stanley and his friends are playing poker. Blanche and Stella are also home, drinking a little and enjoying themselves. Stanley is also drunk, and gets upset over a radio that they keep turning on. Stanley then proceeds to beat his pregnant wife.
In this second key moment, Stanley has an encounter with Blanche. They are home alone, and Stanley confronts Blanche on her lies. He found out that everything she had been feeding them were all distorted versions of the truth, and she was nothing special. Stanley then proceeds to rape Blanche.
Playwright Tennessee Williams uses Stanleys abusive and undermeaning actions to women to convey a sense of gender roles and unequality in our society.
