"The fresh warmth, ... flowers were blossoming profusely."pg.25, This is imagery because it explains the weather in depth so we can picture the peaceful and calm environment. This juxtaposes to the fact that the lottery is a dismal tradition.
Theme: just because is a tradition doesn't make it right. It desensitizes common sense. Something you are used to doing might be a bad thing.

Mr.Graves was wrong, the lottery is horrible.
Mr.Graves is the person who writes the names for the lottery and puts it in the black box. His name symbolizes a garveyard and it means death or passing and so does the black box because of the dour color.
"I clean forgot to feed m' cows!"
The slips of paper symbolize the fragility of life and how easily it is lost just like a sheet of loose paper.
To set the mood/theme of the story, we find out near the end that winning the lottery is actually a horrible thing. This shows how vulnerable we are, since we connotate lottery with positive things like winning money, when in fact the lottery can be lots of painful things.
