  • Traveling by water was easier than traveling by land. The ancient greeks were never far from water.
  • Most people in ancient Greece farmed, and raised animals. But they settled on mountains, therefore farmers built wide earth steps into the hills to create a more flat space to plant.
  • The Greek communities increased, therefore they decided to make colonies. The Greeks established colonies over a period of more than 300 years, from 1000 to 650 B.C.E.
  • Many Greek settlements on the mainland relayed on trading with others, to get needed goods.
