When the slaves are taken off the ship and onto land they are kept chained together to make sure that they can't escape.
Next, the slave traders wash and clean the slaves so then they might get more money for them as they look healthier. If they have any scars or cuts on them as a result of the awful trip over the middle passage then they would fill them with hot tar.
Then the slaves would have been all taken to a cage where they would have been kept before and during the auction
One by one they would have been shown off just as you would with an animal. The slaves would have been priced higher based on: Strength if you're a man or boy Fertility if you're a woman or girl
The plantation owners and buyers were then allowed to inspect and poke and prod the slaves without any thought to their dignity. Especially as they were only given a small piece of cloth to cover up with. Once the buyers had inspected the slave they would then agree on an acceptable price .
Finally, They are taken off in carts to the plantation where they will work for the rest of their lives
