Jem is Going Downtown
Atticus is Sitting by Himself
“I’m going out for a while,’ he said. ‘You folks’ll be in bed when I come back” Atticus is leaving to set up the light at the jail cell.
Atticus Tells the Kids to Leave
“Then I'm goin’ with you. And if you say no, you’re not, I’m goin’ with anyway, hear?” Jem was about to leave to see Atticus, but Scout wasn’t going to let that happen.
“Atticus was sitting propped against the front door”. Atticus is sitting in the light, reading the paper waiting for the men to show up.
“Go home, Jem,’ he said ‘Take Scout and Dill home.” Atticus doesn’t want the kids there at the station, because he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt.
