Because they were born in Spain, Peninsulares thought they were Culturally and Socially superior to the Criollos.
I'm better because I was born in Spain!!
The Peninsulares held most of the political power and wealth of the colony.
We hold most of the power and money!!
The Criollos however thought they would be better leaders and rulers compared to Peninsulares.
We are better leaders and rulers!!
They believed this because they were born in the colony and thought they better understood the needs of the people.
We better understand the people!
After a decade of war, Mexico won it's independence from Spain, but they suffered from many problems and was not strong.
