  • Proclamation of 1763
  • STOP

  • This order prohibited, or barred, colonists from living west of the Appalachian Mountains, on Native American land.
  • Townshend Acts of 1767
  • Lowered the tax on the molasses the colonists imported. Hoped now colonists would pay the tax instead of smuggling.
  • Boston Massacre 1770
  • This law taxed almost all printed materials. Newspapers, wills, and even playing cards needed the stamp that showed that they payed the tax.
  • Boston Tea Party 1773
  • Taxed imports such as glass, tea, and paper. The tax was paid when the goods arrived before being given to the colonies.
  • Colonies were on the brink of rebellion so Parliament sent troops to Boston. Colonists felt like the laws British were passing violated colonial rights. On march 5, 1770, a fight broke out between some Bostonians and soldiers. Five colonists died that day.
  • The British East India Company was facing financial problems so they passed the Tea Act, it allowed the Company to have nearly total control of the market for tea in the colonies, it also removed some of the taxes for tea. On December 16, the Boston Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans and threw 342 chests of tea overboard.
