Storyboard Text

  • Ready as ever.
  • Janice! It is finally time for your vision quest. Are you ready?
  • Janice is finally ready for her rite of passage to adulthood, and she has been waiting for this moment for years. The time has finally come for her encounter with the Shaman where she will learn all about the amazing journey ahead of her.
  • It is now time for Janice to visit a location she views as special and sacred. She decides to go to a quiet forest where she is surrounded by the beauty of nature. In the forest, Janice prays and reflects on the meaningful words by the Shaman.
  • It was my great grand father holding a butterfly.
  • Interesting Janice!
  • In order to purify her mind, body and spirit, Janice must fast, pray, and go without sleep. She continues to pray to the Great Spirit to further prepare herself for the journey ahead of her.
  • Memengwaa- Nibwaakaawin
  • Janice enters the sweat lodge to ensure purity and renewal. This allows her to have a clear understanding of her vision of the spirit helper. Janice sees a butterfly in the palm of her great grand father.
  • It is now time for Janice to return home where she will meet with an elder. The elder will listen to Janice's interpretation of her vision and provide insight on the significance.
  • The elder tells Janice that the butterfly represents Janice's connection with the ancient wisdom of her ancestors. The elder then gave Janice her new name, Memengwaa-Nibwaakaawin. Memengwaa means butterfly and Nibwaakaawin means wisdom.
