As the Baudelaires are searching for a library of records to research Count Olaf, the evil man that made their lives miserable, a lady coincidently speaks over the loud speaker asking for volunteers to work in the library of records at the Heimlich Hospital. As the children work, they also attempt to find more information on Count Olaf.
After a long night's sleep in the filthy, cold, unfinished side of the Heimlich Hospital, the children return to work and make an attempt to find the file that gives information about Count Olaf. Later in the day, a familiar voice echoes throughout the hospital and it turns out to be Count Olaf's voice.
Desperately, the Baudelaires play a cruel trick on Hal, another worker at the Library of Records, in hopes to find any files with information about Count Olaf. While they are looking for these files, someone bursts through the locked door of the Library door.
