The Myth of Hephaestus
Hephaestus was born ugly and his mom,Hera, was ashamed.
Hera threw Hephaestus off of Mt. Olympus because he was ugly. Hephaestus landed on the shore and floated down to the ocean, where Thethis, the water nymph, finds him and brings him back to her grotto.
Hera sees Thethis' necklace at a god party and finds out that her son, that she abandoned, is making beautiful jewelry.
Hera takes Hephaestus in and she says that he can live with her as long as he makes jewelry for her. She said that she will get the cyclopes to be his helpers in the mountains. She also said that she will get Aphrodite to marry him if makes the beautiful jewelry.
Hephaestus forgives Hera for abandoning him, and agrees to make the jewelry for her Then Hera gives him permission to marry Aphrodite.
