While the family was going through hard times, Rex would run off for days at a time. Jeannette and her family were very much aware that Rex had a drinking problem but, they came to terms with the fact that he wasn’t going to change. They would get money from Rex’s work and they would use the money to get food for a little then Rex would take the money and disappear again. The kids got so hungry that when they went to school, they dug through the trash to try and find leftovers from the kids at lunch. Jeannette was so embarrassed by what she had to do that she ate in the bathroom. One day when they were all sitting in the family room they heard Rose Mary chewing something, Brian walked over and pulled the blanket down to reveal that Rose Mary was eating chocolate and not sharing with her kids.
I'm leaving! I'll be home soon.
I need enough food for a month for my family...
How may I help you?
Looks like Dad took our money again...
Rex leaves for days at a time
They get money and can afford to buy food
I'm so hungry.
All their money disappears and they are left hungry
The kids go to school.
Jeannette digs through the trash to find food and she eats it in the bathroom.
