  • Jimmy Carter was born in a small town called Plains, Georgia. He grew up on a peanut farm. He was the first president to be born in a hospital.
  • "Hi there! I like to help out on the farm!"
  • Jimmy Carter was a hardworking student who loved reading. One of his teachers was a strong, positive role model for him.
  • Jimmy Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946. He served in the Navy until 1953. He served in many positions.
  • "I did really well at the Naval Academy!"
  • Jimmy Carter was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1962. He lost the election for governor the first time, but on January 12th, 1971, he became the 76th governor of Georgia. 
  • "Civil rights was very important to me when I was governor of Georgia!"
  • On November 2nd, 1976, Jimmy Carter was elected the 39th president of the U.S. He was a Democrat who wanted all people to be equal. He brought Israel and Egypt together after many years of conflict.
  • "I ran against Gerald Ford for the election and I won!"
  • Jimmy Carter was president until 1981. He created the Carter Center in 1982 to help others have better lives, even in other countries! 
  • Today, Jimmy Carter continues to help others have better lives by doing volunteer work.
