American troop: The C Company (Charlie Company) arrived in South Vietnam in December. They have been here for three months without coming in direct contact with North Vietnamese forces.
By mid-March the company had suffered 28 casualties involving mines or booby-traps.
When the soldiers arrived, they began slaughtering everyone in the village, burning down houses and destroying nearly everything.
They also played "games" with some of the citizens, tying them up, putting bags on their head, and taunting them.
Somewhere between 347 and 504 innocent unarmed Vietnamese civilians were killed in South Vietnam in their homes on 16 March 1968.
Around a year later many large protests broke out because this was one of the first incidents of the war covered by the media.
