  • In the election of 1824, Jackson had won the popular vote, but Adams had won the White House vote due to connections he had. Jackson claimed this system to be corrupt.
  • 1828 South Carolina Nullification

  • The Tariff of Abomination was a tariff that raised the tax on imports, and lowered the tax on exports. This tariff favored the north and made the south upset.
  • 1832 Worcester vs. Georgia
  • When Jackson was elected, he first eliminated the rule that land was required to vote, as he was in favor of the common man such as himself. He also appointed all his friends into the cabinet, forming the "Kitchen Cabinet".
  • 1836 Trail of Tears

  • South Carolina felt that the Tariff of Abomination was unfair to the southern states, and threatened to secede from the States.
  • A man had been living with a Native Tribe and was put to trial. The trial ended with the supreme court deciding that it was legal for the Natives to continue living in Georgia. Andrew Jackson ignored this.
  • Andrew jackson forcibly evicted over 16,000 Cherokees out of their home in Georgia to the west of the Mississippi. Over 4,000 People died on this trail from starvation, cold, dehydration, and disease.
