One day, Jem and Scout passed by Ms. Dubose's house on their way to town. Just like every other time they passed, she insulted them, but this time she insulted their father, which made Jem angry. pages: 116-117; chapter: 11
When they got to town, Jem seemed to be very angry as he bought himself a toy steam engine and Scout a baton. page:117; chapter: 11
Jem walked silently next to Scout the entire way home, until they reached Ms. Dubose's house again. page: 117; chapter: 11
When they got to Ms. Dubose's house Jem took Scout's baton and used it to cut down all of the flowers in the yard. When he finished, he took Scout and dragged her home. page: 118; chapter 11
When Atticus got home he told Jem to go apologize to Ms. Dubose. Jem went and she told him that she wanted him to read to her a few times a week for a month to make up for it. pages: 119-121; chapter: 11
Jem read to her for a month and a week before she passed away. Atticus said it was because she was a morphine addict. She told Atticus to give Jem one of the flowers that he had cut before she died. pages: 121-128; chapter 11
