To Kill A Mockingbird by: Harper Lee, Storyboard by: Emily Van Patten
Calpurnia (Cal), Atticus, and Jem Storyboard.
Substitute Mom: "Calpurnia sent me through the door to the dining room with a stinging smack."
House Cook: "...plus Calpurnia our cook."
Smart: Calpurnia was to blame for this. It kept me from driving her crazy on rainy days, I guess. She would set me a writing task by scrawling the alphabet firmly across the top of the tablet, then copying out a chapter of the Bible beneath."
Lawyer: "Atticus derived a reasonable income from the law. (pg. 6).
Smart: "Your father's right," she said. Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. (pg 19)
Determined: "Just one more week, son said Atticus." "No," said Jem. "Yes," said Atticus. (pg. 46)
Athletic: "WHEN HE WAS NEARLY thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. When it healed, and Jem's fears of never being able to play football were assuaged, he was seldom self-conscious about his injury." (Lee 3).
Daring: "Jem threw open the gate and sped to the side of the house, slapped it with his palm and ran back past us, not waiting to see if his foray was successful." (Lee 18).
Thinking Outside The Box: ".... and if Atticus ever said we couldn't, Jem had thought of a way around it:...." (Lee 55).
