With hands to speak and eyes to listen
English grade ten short story project
The setting of my story is Domitianus Public High School.
These are my main characters, (left to right) Tovia Kubrik, Abram Sergeant and an unnamed supply teacher.
The conflict of the story is that Tovia, a deaf girl who isn't comfortable speaking or pronouncing words is told to present her project out loud without the teacher knowing of her condition.
Tovia is visibly struggling and the moment is saved when Abram, another student who guessed about Tovia's disability, stands up and uses sign language to translate for her.
The story ends with Tovia and Abram becoming friends, thus demonstrating the theme of the story; "Kindness can come from anyone unexpectedly"
The mood of the story is one of unease and then, near the end, one of relief and joy.
