Storyboard Text

  • "Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air." (1.i.12-13)
  • The witches are saying that goodness is bad, but it is still praised.
  • "This supernatural soliciting cannot be ill, cannot be good." (1.iii.144-145)
  • Macbeth explains
  • "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty." (!V.47-50)
  • Lady Macbeth states that she doesn't want to be identified as a certain gender, she just wants power and to be in control (inhuman).
  • "The temple-haunting martlet, does approve, by his loved mansionery, that the heaven's breath smells woolingly here." (1.vi.5-7)
  • Martlets tend to settle in nice places and this one decided to go to King Duncan's home which means his home is a welcoming place.
  • "False face must hide what the false heart doth know." (1.vii.95-96)
  • Macbeth must put on a good image but inside, keep the ambition to kill King Duncan.
  • "Which smoked with bloody execution...and fixed his head on our battlements." (1.ii.20-25)
  • This imagery shows the blood/violence of Macdonwald's death because it adds to the dark tone of the book.
