Gideon went to prison but couldn't afford a lawyer to stick up for him went he went to court.
Gideon was found guilty and served in prison for 5 years.
Gideon went to the supreme court about the sixth amendment and he was told that not having a lawyer in his situation was violating his right. They sent him to a lower court for his trial.
Gideon was given a lawyer and was found not guilty.
All accused must be provided with a lawyer when going to trial.
