Owen rode up to the Hubbard's house. He was 50 feet away or so. Their were two guards sitting outside of the house. Both looked young and foolish. It looked like they couldn't keep his eyes open Owen carried a sack with food and a jug of alcohol. He was nervous they would find out why he was really there
Owen recognized one of the boys, Adcock. He was part of Shattucks gang. They both came up to Owen and asked him why his was there. He told them he was taking the Hubbard woman their food portions. The guards were iffy to let him in the house. They were confused why he was their. They soon took Owens jug and let him in because of his uniform.
Owen went into their home. It was very small. Lucy Hubbard suspected Owen was a spy. Mary completely trusted him. He gave them the letter Vance wanted him to deliver. Mary asked if he could help them escape. owen was unsure but agreed eventually.
Owen looked out the window and saw the guards asleep. They slowly walked out of the house and sneaked to a pen of horses. Owen knew the could not get out of town on foot.
Owen agreed to show the woman to his Uncle Zach's house. They faintly heard shouting in the distance. He assumed it was the boy guards realizing they had fled. Owen had to remember how to get to Uncle Zach's because he had forgotten a compass. Soon they reached the outside of a thicket of trees. They decided to stop and rest.
