The Chemical Component is known as Neurotransmitters. Ones that enters the synapse are picked up by receoptor sites, In some cases, originating neuron reabsorbs the cheicals in a process called reuptake.
Let's Pretend this is a Chemical Lab
This hallway is called The Synaptic Cleft. This is the space between neurons at a nerve synapse across which a nerve impulse is transmitted by a neurotransmitter.
This leads to the two doors: One is the Presynaptic Neuron which fires the neurotransmitter as a result of an action potential entering its axon terminal. The other, Postsynaptic Neuron, which is an electrical impulse is transmitted across a synaptic cleft by the release of a chemical neurotransmitter from the axon terminal of a presynaptic neuron.
And lastly, we have our Terminal Buttons. these contain all the neurotransmitters that are necessary to pass on the signals. Thank you for joining our tour of the Neuron Factory!
