  • In the story we didn't expect for anyone to die at the end. To most people the lottery means fortune. Nobody expected Tessie to get stoned to death. Expect the unexpected.
  • "Most of them were quiet, wetting their lips, not looking around" The tone is suspenseful. In this quote, you can feel the tension whenever they all fall silent.
  • In the beginning of the story, Tessie is late and Mrs.Delacroix is on time. Tessie is the one who wins the lottery while Mrs. Delacoix is safe.
