  • Stop complaining, we can't help it.
  • We are so poor. I want new clothes.
  • What makes you think I can go to a ball?
  • Honey, we are going to a ball!!
  • I need to borrow a necklace.
  • Here.
  • Mme Loisel chose to marry a clerk, M. Loisel, over higher ranked people so she doesn't have as much money as she wants. She dreams of all the wonderful clothes and furniture that she wants.
  • Oh no! The necklace.
  • The husband comes home with a letter to go to a ball. He thinks that his wife will be very excited, but she isn't because she's upset that she had nothing to wear.
  • Once they spend 400 francs on a dress she still needed some jewelry to wear. She went to her rich friend Mme Forestier to see if she could borrow a necklace.
  • I actually lost the necklace
  • After Mme Loisel got home from rushing out of the ball, she realized that she had lost the necklace. They looked all over the place, but they ended up paying for a replica of it.
  • To pay off the necklace, for the next ten years they had to do hard work that they weren't used to doing.
  • At the end of the story, they run into each other a Mme Loisel tells he that she actually lost the necklace and they replaced it. She found out that they paid way more than what it was worth though.
