  • Charles Darwin was born February 12,1809. 
  • Charles Darwin set sail on the HMS Beagle. Darwin's plan was to collect specimen of plants and animals.
  • Darwin found three distinctive patterns of biological diversity. Species vary locally, globally, and over time.
  • Fossils are preserved remains or traces of ancient organisms. 
  • Darwin's study of fossils convinced him and other scientists that life evolved.
  • Paleontologists have discovered hundreds of fossils that document intermediate stages in the evolution of many different groups of modern species
  • James Hutton influenced Darwin by proposing that Earth is shaped by geological forces that took place over extremely long periods of time. He estimates Earth to be millions of years old.
  • Four guys influenced Darwin. There names were James Hutton, Charles Lyell, Jean- Baptiste Lamarck, and Thomas Malthus
  • Charles Lyell influenced Darwin by his principles of geology. 
  • Jean-Baptiste Lamarck influenced Darwin by having the idea that species change over time
  • Thomas Malthus influenced Darwin by writing "Essay on the Principle of Population". 
  • Acquired characteristics is a change in an organ or a tissue during the lifetime of an organism due to use or disuse, or environmental effects which is not inherited
  • Artificial Selection is a process in which nature provides the variations.
