King James was Protestant and he exiled Catholic people and Catholic priests. However some Protestants believed he was too nice to Catholic people. They thought that he was too weak.
Thomas Winter, Thomas Percy, Guido Faweks and Robert Catseby met at the Duck and Drake pub to discuss how to blow up the Parliament! They belived that the king was too nice to the Chatholics.
The gunpowder plotters first tried to dig a tunnel under the River Themes to then blow up the parliament in 1605. It was fluded, but know one has ever found any evidence that the tunnel was actually built. Could it all be a lie?
The plotters then rented a cellar under the parliament. They put 36 barrels of gunpowder in the cellar; Guido Faweks was in charge of lighting the barrels on fire, this is because he worked in the spanish army therefore he had experience.
A letter was sent to a member of the parliment telling them to not go to the house of the parliment on the 5 of november. Therefore because of the letter the cellars were checked; Guido Faweks was caught and said his name was John Johnson, that was a very common name.
Guido Faweks was then hung, drawn and quatered, the others ran away in the north. Two of them were acctualy killed by the same musket ball!
