President Andrew Jackson convinced some Cherokee leaders to sign a treaty selling their land.
Much of the new land promised the Native Americans was later taken away by the U.S. government.
Winfield Scott was the general that led the soldiers who forced the Cherokee people off their land.
About 4,000 Cherokee people died on the forced march known as the Trail of Tears.
