Storyboard Text

  • The experiment was staged 103 times - 38 drunk, 65 ill.
  • I am either black or white and either ill or drunk
  • I wish I could help him, but I'm not strong enough...
  • I am either carrying a bottle in a brown bag or a black walking stick and the time is measured until someone comes to help me
  • The experiment happened on the New York 8th Subway. It took place from 11am to 3pm on the 15th April to the 26th of June.
  • Model wears informal clothes and sits the victim up and stays with him until the end of the experiment
  • It's for men to help him. I just don't know where to look!
  • The victims were identically dressed in an Eisenhower jacket and old trousers. There were 3 white and 1 black student who played the victim.
  • We note the race, age, sex and location of all in the critical area and the total number of people in the carriage
  • The victim collapses 70 seconds in to the 7 1/2 minute journey in the critical area.
  • I'll help!
  • A model helped the victim either 70 or 150 seconds into the journey. They either came from the critical or adjacent area.
  • Out of the 4 team members there were 2 female observers who sat in the adjacent area.
  • We do the same for people in the adjacent area. Also the time it took the first person to help
  • The results of the experiment showed that 90% of helpers were male and 62/65 times the ill person was helped but only 19/38 drunk victims were helped.
