Storyboard Text

  • Here in the North we have lots of big cities in fact 1/4 of people live in urban areas like this one. Our cities are filled with factories that provide work for many people. We have lots of immigrants from all over Europe. We also have a great transportation system made up of many railroads.
  • We have small farms like this one, we don't have slaves so farmers normally only grow enough to support their family. After the cotton loom was invented(which is used in factories to mass produce cloth) industry really started to take off, agricultural workers dropped 70% to 40%.
  • The building behind me is just one of the many places were Wig/Republicans meet, they make up the majority here. In the North we have lots of business men, doctors, teachers, and engineers. Our children are also more likely to attend school then the South.
  • Welcome to the South, were we have a warm climate and lots of fertile soil. We have little industry here, but there are lots of large plantations like this one that grow cotton or tobacco. The invention of the cotton gin made growing cotton so profitable it made it much easier to mass produce. We use slaves to plant and harvest our crops, in fact there are 4 million blacks compared to 5.5 million whites living here.
  • We don't have many big cities in fact only 1/10 of people live in urban areas. I live on a plantation with a house similar to this one, 80% of the work force lives on farms just like me. However only 1/3 of people actually own slaves. We also lack efficient forms of transportation in comparison to the North.
  • Most Southerners belong to the Democratic Political Party. Many of us also follow military careers or some form of agriculture. Sadly many of us tend to be less educated, and a lesser percentage of our children attend school.
