  • Party and personal loyalties — a high percentage of a resident's appointees belong to the president's political party
  • Political ideology- Presidents usually appoint judges who seem to have a similar political ideology to their own.

  • The Senate takes in careful consideration when confirming a justice

  • engage in illegal activities in college
  • the candidate shouldn't have these personal character pitfalls
  • these might include sexual harassment, drinking, smoking etc
