Odysseus and his men landed on the shore of the island of the sun god Helios. Odysseus made sure his men knew they could not to touch the cattle. He says, "the cattle here are not for our provisions." His men reply yes, but they " had a month of onshore gales."

Temptation
Perfectly cooked.
That looks delicious.
What are you guys doing!?!
Odysseus' men are tested when Odysseus is away praying and they are left alone by the cattle. One of the men Eurylochus says to the men, "you've gone through everything; listen to what I say." and tells the men that dying of famine is very bad.
Loyalty

The men proved that they are not loyal to Odysseus and they " cut out the noblest of these cattle for sacrifice to the gods who own the sky."
As the men were killing one of the cattle, Odysseus woke from his sleep and prayer and walked back to the camp. On his way however, he smelled "the savory odors of burnt fat eddied around him." He cried out to Zeus and begged for mercy.
When Odysseus saw what the men had done, he cried to Zeus. Then Helios cried to Zeus and said "Punish Odysseus' men! So overweening, now they have killed my peaceful kine." So when they set sail, they are punished by death, where only Odysseus lives.
