  • Alrighty class. Today's topic is earthquakes, and how we know that the movement of plate tectonics effects the results in geologic events.
  • We already know that the earth is made up of plate tectonics, but a new piece of information for today is that these plates move, causing earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountains. These three are the geological events that I had been talking to you about earlier!!
  • What do earthquakes specifically have to do with the movement of plate tectonics?
  • Plate tectonics make up the earth. There are three different types of plate boundaries, but earthquakes form at a transform plate boundary, where the plates slide against one another. Earthquakes are caused by prolonged energy built up in a boundary.
  • Now that we know that the plate tectonics cause earthquakes, we can apply that knowledge to how the plate tectonics cause geographical events. Earthquakes are an example of a geographical event, so it only proves the fact that plate tectonics cause geographical events.
  • By understanding that earthquakes are caused by plate tectonics, we can clearly see that all geographical events are. That is the one thing that they all have in common.
  • Um...... Do you mind repeating what you just said??
