  • Should I run into the burning church to try and rescue those kids?- Page 91
  • Man vs. Man
  • You could use a bath greaser. And a good working over. And we've got all night to do it. Give the kid a bath David. -Page 55
  • Man vs. Society
  • I hope we don't get caught doing this. If the police catch me then I will be put in the electric chair. (Remembering Ponyboy from page 57)
  • This scene is man vs. self because Ponyboy is deciding whether to rescue the kids from the burning building or not. Page 91- (Ponyboy) "'I'll get them, don't worry!' I started at a dead run for the church and the man caught my arm. 'I'll get them. You kids stay out!' I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We started it!"
  • This scene is man vs. man because Ponyboy and Johnny are being attacked by the Socs. Page 54- "Johnny's hand went to his back pocket and I remembered his switchblade."This quote shows that Johnny and Ponyboy are under attack because Johnny pulls a blade. 
  • This scene is man vs. society because Ponyboy and Johnny are running away because they killed someone and the police is chasing them. Ponyboy- "'They put you int the electric chair for killing people!'" -Page 57
