The boys begin to miss having grown-ups around and are homesick. They go to hunt the beast. They come along a cave place near the coast and jack says it would make a good fort. Meanwhile we see Simon exploring the beauty of the island. They all go hunting and when they don't catch the pig, they pretend Robert is the pig and pretend to kill him. Jack leaves to make his own tribe.
Chapters 9 and 10
After seeing the Lord of the Flies and fainting, Simon heads back towards camp. Everyone, besides Ralph, Piggy, Samneric, and Simon join Jack. Jack's tribe feasts and then do a horrible dance, which kills Simon. Jack's tribe resorts to stealing Ralph's tribe's fire and then they attack them to steal Piggy's glasses. They have the realization that Simon was murdered.
Chapters 11 and 12
Ralph, Piggy, and Samneric go to ask for Piggy's glasses back. Jack's tribe ties Samneric up, so Ralph and Jack fight. Roger releases a boulder that kills Piggy. and Ralph nearly gets killed, but escapes. Samneric become hostages and are forced to tell them Ralph's hiding spot when they go to kill him. Ralph barely gets away, when they light the thicket on fire. Then a nearby boat sees the fire and rescues the boys from the island. Once the grown-up appears the boys burst out into tears; Ralph cried for the loss of innocence and for almost being killed.
