SPEECH When Miles said, "I like Henrick Dosens. He won a playwright!" . This shows that Miles has a special talent at memorizing famous peoples last words. Miles said, "I like them baggy." (pg 15) This shows that he was very embarrassed and scared speaking to Alaska for the first time. Lastly, Miles asked, "Does your mom smoke or something?" (pg.57) This demonstrates that Miles isn't afraid to ask risky questions.
THOUGHTS Miles says, "I cannot stop thinking that she is dead, I cannot stop thinking that she cannot possibly be dead." (pg 142). This shows that he is really in love with Alaska Young and can't stand that she is dead. "I think he liked the lea of me following in his foot steps." (pg. 5). This thought shows that Miles want to go to the same school his father went to. "I thought it's all my fault."(Pg. 139). This shows that he is very sick by the fact that Alaska is dead and he feels like it was his fault that she is dead.
EFFECTS ON OTHERS When Miles dad says, "Because of me?" (pg. 5) This shows that Miles dad was wondering if Miles wanted to attend boarding school because of him. On page 131 Alaska says, "I have to get out of here!" This reveals Miles effect on Alaska was that she was going crazy and panicking a lot. "...the colonel talked me into paying five dollars for a pack of Marlboro Lights I had no intentions of ever smoking." (pg. 15). This explains that the effect that Miles put on Colonel was a positive effect showing that he will pay for something the Colonel likes.
ACTIONS "...I noticed that Alaska had skipped class, how could she skip the only class worth attending?" (pg. 70). This action reveals that Miles cares about Alaska. He thinks about her and tries to help her out. "I didn't sleep at night. Dawn was slow in coming, and even when it did..." This shows that Miles couldn't stop thinking about Alaska's death. Miles says, "I smiled back, but quickly turned and hid myself amid in the mass..." He was nervous so he turned away from the person so he wouln't be noticed among everyone.
LOOKS On page 14 Chip says, "And well call you...hmmm, Pudge." This show that the Colonel came up with the nickname Pudge because Miles was tall and skinny. "I hope your stronger than you look." (pg. 12) the colonel said. This shows that Miles look very fragile and weak. "...Pudge, I've seen your chicken legs entirely to often." (pg.15). This illiterates that Pudge is very thin.
