  • 4.The teacher quickly has to think of a strategy to defuse the situation! The teacher is proactive and thinks of a plan. I need to bring a calmness to the classroom as soon as possible! 'Although not commonly associated with withitness in the research literature, being proactive about potential problems is a logical component behavior'. The Art and Science of Teaching by Robert Marzano.
  • 5.The teacher does a speech! The students are somewhat confused but they really enjoy the speech and the focus is back on the teacher. (not Sally crying)Sally forgets about why she was upset and is in a position to try and do her speech.
  • So funny, I didn't know you were doing a speech, teacher!
  • I really like his speech....
  • So funny ha ha I feel good again! I can do this!
  •  6.As a result of the teacher's tactics, Sally forgets about her problems and is willing to try her speech. She does a super job. The teacher has de-escalated the situation before it reached its peak. The speech contest continues as normal and a potentially chaotic class has been avoided.
  • Wow, amazing.
  • Great speech!
  • .....Thank you for listening. Sally.
