The Colonists were fleeing from the Red Coats that were in Trenton, New Jersey.
During a dinner General Gates was bashing Washington, saying that he was a terrible leader and that the colonists would lose the war so they should just give up.
The colonists decided that they wanted to sneak into Trenton at night, unfortunately there was a blizzard that night.
During the battle, Colonists, including Alexander Hamilton, broke into the Guardhouse and killed the Hessian Guards to prevent them from warning the rest of the Hessians.
After General Rahl, the Hessian General, was shot, the Red coats decided to surrender to the Colonists, resulting in a win.
After the battle, Washington got word that General Rahl was dying and that it was a courtesy of war to talk to him. Rahl told Washington to not steal from his men and let them keep their dignity. Many of the Hessians became American citizens after the war.
