  • Chapter 1
  • "Jem wanted Dill to know once and for all that he wasn't scared of anything: "It's just that I can't think of a way to make him come out without him gettin' us." Besides, Jem had his little sister to think of."
  • I'm Dill

  • Chapter 2
  • He's a Cunnigham
  • Why don't you have any lunch Walter?
  • Chapter 3
  • "First of all," he said, "if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view […] until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.
  • School is unnecessary Atticus.
  • In chapter one scout and Jem are having a discussion about the past and how Jem broke his leg. Jem says that it all started with Boo Radley when Dill came to visit his aunt over the summer. Scout how ever believes it started with the Ewells. Dill then told them about the rumor of Boo Radley and they soon all became obsessed. All summer they were trying to get Boo to come out of hiding.

  • In chapter two summer ends and school is starting. Dill had gone back home and Scout was excited to finally begin school. Unfortunately scout realizes school wasn't going to be so great. Her new teacher Ms. Caroline is from the north and doesn't understand the way Maycomb is. Her and teacher don't particularly get along and Jem doesn't want to play with her while at school.

  • In chapter three Jean Louise tries to beat up Walter because hes the reason she got in trouble, Jem steps in and stops her. Jem invites Walter home for lunch with scout and him. When they return to school Burris is sent home because he has lice and he make Ms. Caroline cry because he says he's done for the year and isn't coming back. Scout then comes home and tells Atticus about her day and how she really doesn't need to go to school.
  • Chapter 6

  • In chapter four school is moving slowly for scout. Scout finds special items in knot hole in tree by Radley’s. Dill returns again. They play “Boo Radley” and Atticus catches them. Jem lies to dad.
  • In chapter five Jem and Dill grow closer and Scout feels left out (even though Dill asks Scout to marry him). Scout befriends Miss. Maudie. She tells some “truth about Boo” and that most rumors are false. Boo was polite as a child. Ms. Maudie’s perspective of “Boo” gives us sympathy for him. Boo’s father was an overbearing, religious man who drove Boo to madness
  • In chapter six as Dill is about to leave, they play one last “boo” game. All three sneak to “Boo’s” house and Dill and Jem peak in the window. A shadow comes over them all but leaves. As they escape, a shotgun goes off. All escape but Jem’s pants get stuck. The boys lie about the event. Jem later sneaks out to retrieve his pants.
