My Symbol is the Black Box. I chose the Black Box because it respresents death and fear. The Black Box holds sheets of paper that determines a person's death. On lines 48-49 it says the villagers kept a distance between themselves and the stool.
TONE AND THEME
I chose this image because its a sunny day and the flowers are blooming. This image indicates that its summer and i thought it was a beautiful and peaceful image. On lines 1-3 it says that it was a clear sunny day with the flowers blossoming profusely.
Foreshadowing is when the author gives a clue of whats going to happen in the future. Bobby Martin is putting stones in his pocket. This tells what might happen to the person that gets picked in the lottery. In the it says that Bobby Martin stuffed his pockets full of stones.
The tone of The Lottery was very suspenseful. Anybody could have been picked to die in the lottery. It is also deceiving because a lottery is usually when someone is picked to receive a prize. But, in this story getting picked is not a good thing.
