1824- John Adams and the Corrupt Bargain
1828- Tariff of Abomination
1828- Jackson 1st election
In the election of 1824, John Q. Adams and Andrew Jackson were running against each other. Jackson won Popular vote, but Adams still won. Henry Clay helped Adams win the election.
1828- South Carolina Nullification
John C. Calhoun declared the tariff unconstitutional. He favored the South and encouraged them to nullify.
1830- Worcester vs. Georgia
In 1828 Andrew Jackson was finally elected president. He invited "the common man" to his inauguration.
1836- Trail of Tears
The Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional for a non-native american to be present on Native American land without a license
Native Americans were told they would have to relocate to Oklahoma. The Cherokee delayed moving for years. In 1837 Federal troops forced 16,000 Cherokee's relocate. 1/4th of them died during the journey.
