  • 1824- John Adams and the Corrupt Bargain
  • 1828- Tariff of Abomination
  • 1828- Jackson 1st election
  • In the election of 1824, John Q. Adams and Andrew Jackson were running against each other. Jackson won Popular vote, but Adams still won. Henry Clay helped Adams win the election.
  • 1828- South Carolina Nullification
  • John C. Calhoun declared the tariff unconstitutional. He favored the South and encouraged them to nullify.
  • 1830- Worcester vs. Georgia
  • In 1828 Andrew Jackson was finally elected president. He invited "the common man" to his inauguration.
  • 1836- Trail of Tears
  • The Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional for a non-native american to be present on Native American land without a license
  • Native Americans were told they would have to relocate to Oklahoma. The Cherokee delayed moving for years. In 1837 Federal troops forced 16,000 Cherokee's relocate. 1/4th of them died during the journey.
