Storyboard Text

  • 1964 Glasgow Babies Study
  • Schaffer and Emerson carried out a longitudinal study following 60 infants, investigating attachment relationships that infants develop.
  • Children attachment was measured by separation protest in different scenarios, and observing their response.
  • 1. Left alone in a room.
  • The infants were observed every 4 weeks until they were 1 year old, then again at 18 months.
  • Schaffer and Emmerson found half the children showed their first specific attachment within 6-8 months. Fear of strangers began a month later.
  • 2. Left with other people
  • This obtained results for stranger anxiety. Researchers would note when the infant would show signs of anxiety when moving towards them.  Data also came from the PCG observation.
