Taylor, Estevan, Esperanza and Turtle went to a cottage at the Lake o' the Cherokees. Estevan and Taylor took a boat onto the lake for half an hour. Taylor was upset and began crying because she was going to miss him.
Esperanza had changed her name to Hope, and Estevan changed his to Steven. Taylor did not like calling the couple by their new names because it was the only things left of them that they had from their hometown.
When night time rolled around, they were sitting outside. Turtle buried her doll and repeatedly said "Mama" while pointing at the pile of dirt and cloth. Taylor asked if Turtle had seen her mama buried how she was showing, and turtle said she did.
The four of them waited in Mr. Jonas Wilford Armistead's room to get Turtle a LEGAL birth certificate.
Taylor took Estevan and Esperanza to St. Michael and All Angels. Taylor was very worried what they would do and how they would be able to take care of themselves, but the pastor said there's no need to worry.
On the drive home, Taylor explained to Turtle that she is now her Mama, and only Taylor is. Turtle loved looking out the window, and kept Taylor company with her various songs of vegetables. Both Taylor and Turtle were excited to go home to see Lou Ann again.
