  • The Borrowed Wedding Suit
  • Yellow Dresses 
  • Tom and Myrtle go to New York and Myrtle buys a dog, "I want to get one for the apartment. They're nice to have- a dog." (Fitzgerald 27). This shows the theme of materialism because she uses Tom's money, which shows she doesn't love him she loves his money. 
  • Myrtle gets upset, because George, "borrowed someones best wedding suit to get married in." (Fitzgerald 35). This shows the theme of materialism because if she really loved him, she wouldn't care that he borrowed a suit. 
  • Two girls at Gatsby's party, "two girls in twin yellow dresses, who stopped at the front of the steps." (Fitzgerald 42). The color yellow, symbolizes the theme of materialism and wealth meaning the girls must be very materialistic.
