The Nazi-Soviet union pact was a non-aggression pact that bound Hitler and Stalin to a peaceful relation, so they wouldn't fight each other. On September 1, 1939 a week after the Nazi-Soviet pact was made the Germans invaded Poland. Two days after the invasion Britian and France declared war on Germany causing world war 2 to start.
Nazi Attack The Soviet Union:
In June Mussolini declared war on France and Britian sending Italian troops to attack the South side of France. This caused the French people to feel hopeless, so France finally surrendered. On June 22, 1940 Hitler forced the French to sign a document about them surrendering to Germany. Some of the French officers that escaped to England worked on strategies to free their home.
The Attack On Pearl Harbor:
On September 7, 1940 German bombers were spotted over London, and during that night the air crafts threw high explosives and fire bombs all through the capital. This bombing continued for fifty-seven nights all straight in a row, and happened occasionally until may of 1941. This event was known as "The Blitz", but even after the bombing London did not break and citizens continued with their daily lives.
Since Hitler failed to take Britian he chose a new target which was the soviet union and it was a mistake to do so. In June 1941, Hitler broke the Nazi-Soviet pact by invading the soviet union in the Barbossa operation. The soviet army was still recovering from previous purges where their top soldiers were killed, so they had no choice but to back down.
