  • So class why do you think others(farmers) was angry about the taxes?
  • I know right! I am so excited to learn about the Whiskey Rebellion
  • What was the whiskey tax?
  • Good Morning Class, Today we is going to talk about the Whiskey Rebellion and the Whiskey Tax
  • It was the first tax imposed on a domestic product by the newly formed federal government. It became law in 1791
  • because the whiskey was used to do a lot of things such as money, medicine, etc.
  • Why was it passed Ms. Hill?
  • Alexander Hamilton proposed a seemingly innocuous excise tax
  • Farmers had to Pay even more taxes to make the whiskey, a lot of people didn't buy whiskey so the farmers had no money
  • Too much money !
  • Common sense they didn't pay them
  • What did the farmers do Then !
  • What did George Washington Do ?

  • President Washington and Alexander Hamilton set out at the head of 15,000 troops to suppress the "rebellion."
  • Well he issued a national proclamation admonishing westerners for their resistance
  • Whiskey Rebellion proved to Americans that their new government would act firmly
