Hey, did you hear about the Louisiana Purchase?
The Louisiana Purchase! The U.S. bought the whole Louisiana Territory from the French!
Oh yeah! We bought it from them because we wanted to expand how much land we had! Napoleon sold it to us because they were already losing territory and were currently losing a war with the English.
Correct! It was a lot of money too, around 15 million dollars!
That is a lot of money! Then again, we purchased 827,000 square miles of land!
Yes, that's true. Though Jefferson was hesitant about buying it.
Really? Why's that?
Well, buying the land would go against his principles of a smaller central government. Technically, he shouldn't have been able to buy it. But he decided it owuld be better for the country's future! So he found a loophole around it.
That's great! The country has more than doubled in size, hopefully, it really will do well for our country.
