  • Long ago,  a man named Alexander was born in Greece, the son of King Philip II of Macedon. 
  • Alexander was a military commander at first, helping with his father's army. 
  • Eventually, Philip was assassinated and Alexander became the new King of Macedon. 
  • As King, Alexander focused greatly on expansion of the empire, and carried out famous conquests of Persia and Egypt.
  • Alexander, who came to be known as Alexander the Great, died at the age of 32, likely from disease.
  • Alexander the Great's empire is known for spreading Hellenistic culture through Europe.
