Long ago, a man named Alexander was born in Greece, the son of King Philip II of Macedon.
Alexander was a military commander at first, helping with his father's army.
Eventually, Philip was assassinated and Alexander became the new King of Macedon.
As King, Alexander focused greatly on expansion of the empire, and carried out famous conquests of Persia and Egypt.
Alexander, who came to be known as Alexander the Great, died at the age of 32, likely from disease.
Alexander the Great's empire is known for spreading Hellenistic culture through Europe.
