Good Morning Class! Today we will be going over things that happened in South Africa before 1964.
Top 7: South Africa ~1948 - 1964
These are the top 7 things...
#7: The Beginning •Discrimination has been going on long before 1948. •The Dutch were the first to colonize then came the British. •Then diamonds and gold were discovered, that impacted the economy and it prepared a formal system for segregation.
#6: Communism •In the 1950s, the National Party thought communism was a threat to the Afrikaners. •The Suppression of Communism Act that banned the Communist party, and anything communist related. •The Afrikaners used communism to maintain power and suppress any opposition against them.
#5: Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) •Like the ANC, they were anti-Pass but more violent; they didn't really caring for the innocent. •They were banned after Sharpeville, then went underground forming a military wing, the POQO.
#4: African National Congress (ANC) •The Defiance Campaign was the ANC's major movement. •The ANC was led by Nelson Mandela, later on Albert Luthuli became president. •They broke Apartheid laws and protested to do mass arrests.
