Laura and Amanda sit at the table and Amanda is waiting for gentleman callers to show up but Laura informs her that none are coming. Amanda thinks there must have been a storm but Laura says she just isn't as popular.
Amanda stops in at Laura's college to talk to her teachers about her. She was told that they did not have a student enrolled by the last name Wingfield. Amanda got mad and did not understand why she pretended to go for so long.
Tom and Amanda get into a argument because of his job and he basically says that dead people are lucky because they don't have to put up with what he has to. Amanda calls his selfish a lot and he said if he was he would be gone like his dad. In the end right before Tom walks out the door, he knocks over the Glass Menagerie and Amanda said she would never talk to him again unless he apologizes.
Tom talks to Laura about apologizing to Amanda, and Laura slips down the fire escape on the way out. Tom and Amanda rush to her and are left to talk. Amanda talks all guilty when Tom apologizes. They talk a lot but all Amanda wants to talk about is finding a gentleman caller for Laura and Tom agrees out of annoyance to try to find a guy for Laura and walks out the door.
Amanda and Tom talk about Jim and Laura and what the plan is. They talk about what kind of person Jim is and the good things, and how him and Laura might work out.
A gentleman caller named Jim came and Amanda refused to start supper until Laura was at the table even though she was sick. Laura enters and stumbles and Amanda realizes she is actually sick and Tom helps her to the living room.
