  • Winning Her Over By: Estefany Rodriguez Period:5
  • Sam lived in Hawaii and one day while having breakfast at a diner, he couldn't help but notice a beautiful girl with a red dress. He walked over to her trying to make her fall in love with him. This can tie in to the idea of free will in existentialism because he was the one who decided to walk to her first. without really knowing what could possibly happen.
  • She's beautiful, I have to go talk to her.
  • Sam took her out on a date right by the beach and learned that Kenia was his soulmate. He wanted to learn more of her and wanted to be with her all the time. She too had a great time and could not wait to see him the next day.
  • The next day, Sam went to Kenia's house in search for her. However, as soon as she came to the front door, she asked "Who are you? Do I know you?" What Sam didn't' know was that Kenia had a medical condition in where she was always stuck on the same day doing the same routine everyday. So the date they had had the day before, she had totally forgotten about. Everything Sam had done to make her fall in  love him had been pointless which can again tie to the idea of existentialism that whatever we do is pointless in the end which is absurdity.
  • Okay, it's your turn to choose where we are going to go next, the beach or the movies?
  • I'm sorry do I know you?
  • Sam ,however, was still determined to make Kenia fall in love with him everyday by following the same routine over and over and over again. Although that deep down, Sam knows that Kenia will not remember what happened the day before, or even him, he still keeps on trying.
  • This story is a great example of existentialism and is relatable to the Myth of Sisyphus because both personas keep doing the same thing over and over again without really having any outcome from it. Sisyphus carries up a rock on a mountain and Sam keeps doing the same thing on those dates without really having something greater occur. Both characters have the free will to not continue the same routine time over time again, however they still decide to do that task.  Both scenarios can be described as pointless in a sense, but both characters decide to continue to do it either way and live with it.
